Wall Street Journal's reporter Evan Gershkovich is to be put on trial in the city of Yekaterinburg, Russian authorities have announced.
He is accused of working for the CIA and gathering "secret information".
Evan Gershkovich, the first American journalist since the Cold War to be arrested on espionage charges in Russia, was arrested at the end of March last year during a reporting trip to the city.
The Wall Street Journal and the White House have dismissed the accusations as fabricated.
Washington has attempted to negotiate a prisoner exchange to secure the 32-year-old's release, but according to Russia, this can only be considered once he has been convicted.
