The delivery takes place at the same time as the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio begins his first ministerial visit to the country.
The US has sent thousands of bombs of the same kind, but the country's former president Joe Biden stopped the deliveries of 900-kilo projectiles in May last year, citing concerns over the consequences of using them over densely populated areas. This is particularly in Gaza, where Israel has been waging war against terrorist-stamped Hamas since the extremist movement's major attack on the neighboring country on October 7, 2023.
However, the stop was lifted by the current US President Donald Trump in January. Earlier in February, the US approved the sale of a comprehensive weapons package to Israel worth around 74 billion kronor.
"A significant asset for the air force and the military, and further evidence of the strong bond between Israel and the US," says Israel's Defense Minister Israel Katz in a statement about Saturday's arms delivery, according to The Jerusalem Post.
