Air alarms sounded in large parts of Ukraine during the night. The wave of Russian drones and missiles was directed at cities across almost the entire country, writes The Kyiv Independent.
According to Ukraine's air defense, Russia attacked with a total of over 600 missiles and drones, most of which were shot down. It is the largest air attack since July, reports BBC. Several places report fires and damage to infrastructure.
In Lviv in western Ukraine, several hundred kilometers from the front lines in the east, local authorities report that at least one person has been killed by the Russian attack wave.
Explosions have also been heard in the Rivne region, also far west in Ukraine, and in Mukachevo near the border with Hungary and Slovakia. There, 15 people have been injured, according to the authorities.
According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, the Russian missiles were directed, among other things, at a US-owned operation in Mukachevo, reports AFP.
Russian Shahed drones are also said to have attacked the Kyiv area.
Tonight's large-scale attacks raise further questions about Russia's intentions to reach a peace solution to the war, note Ukrainian and international analysts.
