Taiwan plans to increase its defense budget for 2026 to more than three percent of the country's GDP, announces Prime Minister Cho Jung-Tai.
The message comes after China has escalated its military activities around Taiwan in recent years.
The regime in Beijing regards Taiwan as part of China, but in practice, Taiwan has been self-governing and separate since the end of the Chinese civil war in 1949, when rival regimes took over in Beijing and Taipei respectively.
