Both countries are allied with Russia and have been subjected to harsh sanctions that limit the number of possible trading partners. Iran's president Masoud Pezeshkian says that the country will help Belarus to "neutralize" the measures, referring to Iran's long-standing experience of circumventing the Western world's economic restrictions.
Pezeshkian and Belarus president Aleksandr Lukasjenko have now signed 13 documents for the bilateral relations, including those related to defense. Details of the defense cooperation have not been disclosed.
The countries will also cooperate on industry, tourism, science, technology, and education. They have also agreed to work towards a strategic partnership agreement.
