A large part of Gatwick Airport south of London was evacuated due to a "security incident" on Friday, but the situation has now been resolved, the airport announces on X.
"The southern terminal is reopening for staff and will soon open for passengers."
One of the airport's two terminals was evacuated, but not the other. A bomb squad was sent there "as a precautionary measure", according to Sussex Police in a statement, as reported by BBC.
The reason was, according to the police, a suspected prohibited item in a piece of luggage.
The police set up barriers and no planes were allowed to land at the airport, which is Britain's second largest after London-Heathrow.
