Swedish David Åhman and Jonathan Hellvig are already out in the quarterfinals of the World Championship in Rio de Janeiro, after suffering a shock defeat.
Olympic gold medalists David Åhman and Jonathan Hellvig didn't lose a set during the group stage of the World Championship in Rio de Janeiro, and won their three matches comfortably.
But in the quarterfinals, it got much tougher. Much tougher.
Åhman/Hellvig faced the Latvian duo Martins Plavins and Kristians Fokerots, and didn't get into the game at all.
The Swedes lost the very even first set with 21–23.
And there was no further comeback in the second set. Åhman/Hellvig fell behind immediately, and ultimately lost with 17–21.
The Latvian duo pulled off a major upset and knocked out the Olympic gold winners in two straight sets with the scores 23–21, 21–17.
