The Taliban regime does not recognize diplomatic outposts established by Afghanistan's previous government. On Thursday, the Afghan embassy in Norway's capital Oslo will close.
Earlier in the week, it was also announced that the embassy in London will close on September 27, after the Taliban government in Kabul dismissed the employees there.
Diplomats who served under the previous, Western-backed, government were left in limbo when the Taliban seized power in Kabul in August 2021. Many embassies have continued their operations but have been accused by the Taliban of being unwilling to cooperate.
The Afghan embassy in Norway writes on X that it will continue "its activities for human rights, pluralism, and peace, despite many problems and limited resources". The embassy's premises will be handed over to the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Neither Norway nor the UK recognizes the Taliban government.
