The American actors' union Sag-Aftra has announced a new strike for its members. This time for those who work in the video game world, writes, among others, Deadline.
The strike will take effect as early as Friday, July 26, and comes after two years of negotiations with the major video game companies.
The news comes barely a year after the 2023 Hollywood strike, when film and TV actors went on strike together with screenwriters. Similarly, the video game strike is largely about how actors' likenesses can be used by companies in relation to AI.
"We will not agree to a contract that allows companies to abuse AI to the detriment of our members. That's enough. When these companies get serious about offering a deal that our members can live – and work – with, we'll be here, ready to negotiate," says Sag-Aftra's chairman Fran Drescher in a statement.
