A 15-year-old girl is detained on probable grounds suspected of murdering a high school-aged girl in Landskrona.
She denies the crime.
This is the most serious crime we have in Sweden, and even though it involves a young person, it is a very serious act, says prosecutor Tomas Olvmyr after the decision.
The 15-year-old girl participated in the detention hearing at Lund District Court via video link from the arrest in Helsingborg. She looked calm and did not move a muscle when the prosecutor read out his application.
The girl denies the act, according to her lawyer Maria Ståhl Lindgren.
The court believes that there is a risk that she will continue to commit crimes and that she may destroy evidence if she is released, and therefore finds exceptional grounds to detain her.
The 15-year-old girl still looked calm when the decision was announced, and looked down at the table.
Everyone knows each other
She is still suspected of human trafficking, but the suspicion has weakened and was therefore not mentioned during the detention hearing. If the girl was killed at the same location where she was found, it cannot formally be considered human trafficking.
Another high school-aged girl is suspected of involvement in the murder – she is under 15 years old and has been handed over to social authorities.
The difference is that since she is under 15 years old, she cannot be deprived of her liberty, and there will be no court trial, says Tomas Olvmyr.
He does not want to speculate about whether he would have requested her detention if she had turned 15.
Some confessions
Interrogations have been held with both girls who have provided information about what happened and made some confessions.
They have told us about their involvement in this incident, says Olvmyr, who also confirms that all three know each other.
But it's very early in the investigation. We're not taking any story for granted without checking if it's true or not.
He does not want to go into details about motives or what findings have been made.
A third person
Another person is suspected of a crime in the case. It concerns a person suspected of grossly protecting a criminal, writes Dagens Juridik. The age and gender of the person are not known.
It was during the night to Tuesday that police found a girl under 15 years old lifeless during a routine patrol in an industrial area in central Landskrona. The police have previously stated to TT that severe violence was used against the girl's body. She died at the hospital.
The murdered girl's mother has told TV4 News that her daughter was supposed to meet some friends at a pajama party in Landskrona on Monday.
