A 25-year-old Swedish man has been found dead below a high waterfall in the Alps, according to authorities in Austria.
The man was seen lying lifeless downstream from a high waterfall in Bad Gastein on Sunday. When rescue workers reached the site, they could only confirm that he was deceased, the police reported on Monday afternoon. The remains were recovered with the help of a helicopter.
It is likely that the man fell from a cliff about 60 meters above the waterfall, the police estimate. However, the circumstances will be investigated further, as it was not initially clear whether the man was there alone or with company.
Bad Gastein is a popular ski and spa resort, but the spectacular waterfalls in the mountainous area also attract visitors.
