The well-known Muslim theologian and former Oxford professor Tariq Ramadan is sentenced to three years in prison by a court in Geneva – two years of which are conditional – for rape.
According to the verdict, the 62-year-old has been found guilty of raping a woman at a hotel in Geneva 16 years ago.
In May 2023, he was acquitted of the same charges.
Ramadan denies the crime and his lawyers announce that the verdict will be appealed.
Previously, similar allegations have also been raised against him in France.
