Fans of the comedy "Veep" have started comparing the TV series' plot with the current political situation in the USA.
Now, the satirical series' creator reminds us that it's just fiction.
The TV series "Veep" follows an American vice president played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who strives to become the USA's first female president. Now, fans have started comparing the plot with perceived similarities surrounding Joe Biden's announcement that he is dropping out of the 2024 presidential election, and instead supporting Vice President Kamala Harris, writes Deadline.
A fan writes "Let's be reminded that 'Veep' has already created a fictional version of this script..." and concludes that if reality follows the satirical series, Republican JD Vance will become the USA's next president.
"Veep" creator Armando Iannucci quotes the post on X, but adds: "Don't forget that we made all that up".
He has also shared a post on X where he jokingly writes that he is "still working on the end of the series", and shared pictures from 2014 of Julia Louis-Dreyfus together with Joe Biden at the White House.
Fans have also taken to social media to create memes pointing out similarities between Julia Louis-Dreyfus' character, Vice President Selina Meyer, and Kamala Harris.
The comedy series "The Simpsons" has previously "predicted" political events in the USA, including Donald Trump's presidency. In the episode "Bart to the future" from 2000, Lisa Simpson becomes the USA's first female president and notes that she "inherited a budget crisis from Donald Trump".
Lisa Simpson is wearing a purple suit that is very similar to the outfit Kamala Harris wore on her first day as vice president.
