It was on Friday that five men vandalized the fence, says Ambassador Marja Liivala to the news agency STT.

The men also threw eggs at the wall, and over it. According to the ambassador, the police quickly apprehended the perpetrators, but she has no information about the nationality of those arrested.

The flower and the letters "SD" could be linked to the Sweden Democrats, but the party denies any knowledge of the vandalism.

This is apparently a silly and unnecessary act of vandalism that naturally has nothing to do with us, says press chief Oskar Cavalli-Björkman to Svenska Yle.

Finland has sent Russia a diplomatic note due to the vandalism. A note is a written message between a country's foreign ministry and a foreign embassy in the country. Finland reminds Russia in the message that the country is obligated to protect the embassy.
