American forces, together with the Iraqi security service, have killed 15 people belonging to the terrorist group IS, according to the US military command center for the Middle East, Centcom, in a post on X.
According to the post, the raid took place on Thursday night local time and no civilians were injured. Five American soldiers were wounded during the raid and two were injured in a fall. Two have been evacuated for treatment, but none have life-threatening injuries.
According to Iraq's military, the leader of IS was killed in the raid, they say in a statement, without naming anyone.
"IS remains a threat to the region, our allies as well as our homeland. Centcom will continue our intense hunt for these terrorists together with our Iraqi partners," writes Centcom.
