The US stock market was cautious on Monday, awaiting the upcoming American presidential election. All three leading indexes fell.
The broad S&P 500 index lost 0.3 percent and the Dow Jones industrial index dropped 0.6 percent. The Nasdaq's technology-heavy composite index fell 0.3 percent.
Chip developer Nvidia performed best among the tech giants, rising 0.5 percent, after briefly surging 2.0 percent. The company was briefly ranked as the world's largest listed company – and surpassed Apple in first place – after it became clear that the company would be included in the Dow Jones index. Apple, in turn, fell 0.4 percent.
Electric car manufacturer Tesla also fell, by 2.5 percent, along with other tech giants.
Among those that fell were also business icon Warren Buffett's investment company Berkshire Hathaway, down 2.2 percent.
