In Japan, the Nikkei 225 index was up 1 per cent and the broader Topix index had risen by 0.7 per cent.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng index and Shanghai's composite index had risen by 0.3 per cent each. Shenzhen's composite index was up 0.5 per cent.
