An "unbelievable" number. So says the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, about the over 500 Palestinians who have been killed on the West Bank since the Gaza War broke out.
In a statement, Türk demands an end to the wave of violence in the occupied area.
"As if the tragic events in Israel and Gaza over the past eight months were not enough, the people on the occupied West Bank are also exposed to bloodshed without respite, day after day," it says in the statement.
After the extremist movement Hamas launched a terrorist attack against Israel in October, which became the starting point for the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip, violence has increased on the West Bank. Many of the Palestinians killed by Israeli soldiers or settlers are militiamen, but civilians have also lost their lives.
