FN urges "immediate international action" to prevent further forced relocations in Africa's troubled Sahel region, which includes Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger.
Over 3.3 million people have been forced to flee their homes in the countries in recent years due to conflicts.
The region has been stuck in a spiral of jihadist violence and instability for several years. Since 2012, Mali has been plagued by groups linked to terrorist organizations al-Qaida and IS. Two military coups took place in Burkina Faso in 2022.
The unrest has forced millions of people to live under harsh conditions, and over 500,000 people are estimated to have fled abroad.
UNHRC reports that $443.5 million – approximately 4.6 billion kronor – is needed to meet the urgent humanitarian needs in the area.
