Last night, we received an alarm about a collision between two vessels in the area. It happened around 22.30 local time. They are two cargo vessels, says Jens Hensen, officer on duty at the Danish defense forces, to Aftonbladet.
One of the vessels, Tzarevna, was on its way to Russian St. Petersburg, but is now anchored on site, as it has a hole in the bow.
The other vessel, SSI Erdigan Bey, was on its way to Frederikshavn in Denmark and was able to continue there after the collision to be examined at the quay.
The Swedish Coast Guard has flown over the area to investigate if oil has been released into the water.
We have not been able to see any oil, but we cannot rule out that it will leak out. The information we have right now says that there is no oil in the water, says the Coast Guard's press spokesperson Mattias Lindholm.
The cause of the collision is not clear, but will be investigated by an accident commission and the Danish maritime authority, according to the Danish defense forces' press department.
