Two people have died after being swept away by an avalanche in the Dolomites in the Italian Alps on Sunday.
The avalanche occurred on Mount Forcella Giau near the ski resort Cortina d'Ampezzo and a total of three people were swept away. Two of them have died from their injuries, reported on Monday morning. One is a 38-year-old Italian woman and the other a 40-year-old American man. The third person who survived was part of the same group.
All three were experienced skiers, according to local media reports.
Several other avalanches occurred in the Dolomites over the weekend and several people were swept away. No one has died, but several people suffered fractures of various kinds.
