Linda McMahon is a co-founder and former CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment, WWE, a giant in the industry. She left the CEO role for politics and ran twice for a seat in the Senate, in 2010 and 2012, without success.
In the absence of her own political successes, she shifted her focus and began instead to financially support other candidates. McMahon has been a dedicated Trump supporter and donated, among other things, around six million dollars to his presidential campaign ahead of the 2016 election.
When Trump then won, McMahon led an authority for small businesses during his first term, from 2017 to 2019.
She is seen as relatively unknown in educational circles, but has, among other things, sat on the board of the state of Connecticut's education system and for a university.
"Linda will use her decades of leadership experience and deep understanding of both education and business to strengthen the next generation of American students and workers, and make America number one in the world in education," Trump says in a statement.
