Motorists who lose their driving license due to traffic offenses should be stopped faster in other EU countries as well.
Road safety in this regard is already good in Sweden, but now it is being strengthened throughout the union, which is positive and welcome, says Infrastructure Minister Andreas Carlson (KD) after he and his EU colleagues agreed on the tightened requirements at a ministerial meeting in Brussels on Thursday.
The new rules will plug a loophole where someone who has had their driving license revoked in another country has been able to continue driving in certain other EU countries. Now, however, the country that revokes the driving license will be required to quickly notify the country where the license was issued.
However, an agreement with the EU Parliament is required before the new rules can come into force.
