The Queen of Distance told the media in Beitostølen that the last month has been "a demanding time".
The recovery time has become too short. Kristin had a bad sleep period and all parents know how it can feel. The advantage is that I know my body quite well, so I pulled the emergency brake, said Johaug according to DN and NTB.
The training load made the Norwegian choose to opt out of the national team camp in Idre earlier in November. Instead, she chose to train on her own.
It felt completely right. It's not about the physical. It's about making smart choices in everyday life, like training a little less. It has worked well lately. I started the season in Beitostølen in better shape than before.
Bjørgen: "Was close to tears"
Even former teammate Marit Bjørgen, who is close to Johaug, tells that she noticed that everything was not okay with Johaug just before she pulled the "emergency brake".
During the Norwegian national team's gathering at Mosetertoppen about a month ago, Bjørgen noticed that something was weighing on the Queen of Distance.
She was not quite herself. The time after that, I noticed that she was close to tears, and then I realized that there was something, says Bjørgen.
In addition to the heavy training load, Johaug was also sick during the final build-up to the season, according to Bjørgen.
She got two weeks' rest and could tone down the training. She got energy and more sleep. Now she feels that she's functioning again.
Bjørgen was simultaneously clear that she does not believe that the setback will have consequences for the World Championship in Trondheim.
She took the signals early. This is her challenge. She can push herself too far and if you push yourself too far, it takes longer before you're at the same level again.
Northug's sky-high expectations
Ski legend Petter Northug does not hesitate to set the bar high for Johaug's comeback.
She is the favorite based on what we've seen. She has won a test race on roller skis and I rate her as a better skier than the rest.
Johaug competes this weekend in the Norwegian premiere in Beitostølen. Next weekend, she will line up again, when the World Cup starts in Ruka.
The big goal is the World Championship on home soil in Trondheim.
