Several leading Asian stock exchanges are following the direction of yesterday's trading on Wall Street, where technology-heavy stocks plummeted.
The Tokyo Stock Exchange's Nikkei 225 index was down 3 percent after a few hours of trading on Thursday, while the broader Topix index pointed to a minus of 2.7. The Hong Kong Hang Seng stood at a minus of 0.6 percent at the same time.
Wednesday's stock market trading in New York saw the year's largest stock market fall so far, with the technology-heavy Nasdaq falling 3.6 percent. AI-hyped Nvidia fell 6.8 percent. Other technology companies such as Tesla and Alphabet have also retreated after their quarterly reports.
The downturn has, according to Bloomberg, led analysts to start wondering if the AI hype that has driven up the stock market is about to blow over.
