Alesso speaks out on Instagram about why he has been invisible in social media and cancelled several gigs recently.

Two months ago, he woke up with an enormous ringing in his ears – a sign of severe tinnitus.

"We're talking 10 out of 10. I was completely shocked. And it wasn't after a gig. I just woke up and it was so intense," writes the 33-year-old Swede on Instagram.

Alesso has previously had problems with tinnitus.

"But not at all on this level," he writes, adding that it has been really hard to handle what has happened.

Hearing damage is common in the music industry where the ears are often exposed to high sound volumes.

Now Alesso is on the road to recovery.

"I saw it as a reason to slow down a bit, focus on my health and be more cautious. I've been doing this for 14 years now without any pause. So that's what I've focused on," writes Alesso.
