Swedish state finances deteriorated by 104 billion kronor in 2024, according to preliminary figures from the National Financial Management Authority. This can be compared to the surplus in the state budget of 19 billion kronor in 2023.
Higher expenditures explain the large difference. Among other things, defense expenditures have increased sharply, but also higher contributions to the municipalities as well as the capital injection to the Swedish Central Bank of 25 billion kronor, have increased the state's expenditures by a total of 153 billion kronor compared to 2023.
