The floorball men's team did not have the margins on their side in the World Championship final in Malmö Arena against Finland, who caught up from a 0-4 deficit to win with 5-4 in overtime.
But it is not in a margin that outgoing captain Niklas Nordén finds his answers to why Sweden had to settle for a silver.
"Ridiculous things"
We have not been 100 percent all the way. It has not felt like the other golds, that we would win. The feeling is not just about this match, says Nordén.
Together with captain colleague Thomas Brottman, Nordén has led Sweden to two straight golds before the home World Championship.
I have won twice before and then you have felt "the flow" all the time. On all levels. When it comes to us in the staff, players, and leaders, and everything around, he continues.
Before the World Championship, the duo, who took over in 2021, wanted to know about their future. The answer they got from the association was that they would not get continued confidence, but no real motivation, firm Brottman/Nordén believes they did not get.
All the talk about this has affected a lot, Nordén believes.
We have had to spend an incredible amount of time on it, on ridiculous things. Nonsense, plain and simple. It has been completely, completely unnecessary in a build-up.
What did you feel when the press release came about not getting an extension?
I don't care about those questions today, we can take them afterwards. Then you'll get my feelings going, says Niklas Nordén.
Does not want to be interviewed
The Swedish Floorball Federation's responsible has only chosen to do an interview with SVT during the championship. All other media that have asked for an interview have been rejected.
In elite sports, you must dare to make tough decisions and constantly challenge yourself since the sport is also in constant motion, said Joakim Lindström, head of sports development, to SVT a week ago.
On Sunday, TT asked for an interview after the World Championship final, but the association announces that it may become relevant "in the near future".
