The story of the royal warship Vasa is becoming a musical next year.
The creators of "Vasa – The musical" are the composer and violinist Elias Gammelgård and the conductor and composer Simon Bång.
The plot revolves around Margareta Nilsdotter, the wife of the shipbuilder Henrik Hybertsson. When her husband died in 1627, she took over his role as leader of one of the largest shipbuilding projects of all time and drove it all the way to the fateful first sailing the following year.
The lead role of Margareta is played by Emmi Christensson ("Phantom of the opera", Les misérables") and Henrik is played by Jan Åström ("Sweeney Todd", "Little shop of horrors", "Kristina från Duvemåla"). Among others, Kalle Leander and Andreas Nilsson can be seen in other roles.
"Vasa – The musical" will have its premiere in Stockholm in the fall of 2025. In September this year, a shortened version of the musical will be performed at the Royal Palace in Stockholm.
