A year before the fire at Oceana, the Fire Protection Association warned about the welding method that was later identified as the likely cause of the fire, reports P4 Göteborg.
According to Tobias Thrysén, an expert on fire safety at the Fire Protection Association, around 2018, an increase in fires related to welding with electric muff, also known as electro-welding, was observed.
Since then, electro-welding has been included in the regulations on hot work.
At the same time, the warning was made that the industry had not noticed the risks with the method, he claims.
The industry is probably tough on the idea that we can do this and maybe forgets that new work moments or materials are coming, says Thrysén to P4.
One person died in the fire that broke out on February 12 this year.
