Without the woman's knowledge, a number of unknown people signed themselves into her summer cottage in Huddinge outside Stockholm. It didn't take long before there were 90 of them, she says to the newspaper Mitt i.

The woman discovered last summer that her mailbox was full of mail for other people. At first, it was only three people who were incorrectly registered, but the number grew rapidly.

The reasons behind this type of incorrect registrations can be many, according to the police. It can be someone who does not have a fixed address, which is needed for example for contacts with authorities, or a criminal who does not want the real address to be revealed.

In this case, when there are so many, it is quite likely that identities are being exploited. Often, the entire criminal scheme is sold, where the address is part of it, says Lotta Mauritzson, crime prevention officer at the police's national fraud center, to Mitt i.

Those who end up in a similar situation should report it to the Tax Agency, if they suspect registration fraud, it should be reported to the police. It is illegal to be incorrectly registered, although not if it is an honest mistake.
