The EU Commission is taking China's intended tariffs on certain European dairy products to the World Trade Organization (WTO).
In August, China announced tariffs on, among other things, milk and cream with a fat content of over ten percent, as well as certain types of cheese, which they believe are unfairly benefited by EU subsidies. However, the EU side suspects that China is primarily trying to counterstrike against the EU's announced tariffs on Chinese electric cars.
"The Commission is doing everything it can to protect European milk producers and the common agricultural policy... The Chinese investigation into EU dairy products is based on questionable accusations and insufficient evidence," says Trade Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis in a press release.
