EU is planning tariffs on Norwegian steel components, as a protective measure, reports the Norwegian public service channel NRK.

The import of metal alloys from Norway has, according to a letter from the EU Commission, resulted in harm in the form of reduced production, reduced sales, lower market shares and fewer jobs for producers of the same material in the EU.

”They have large declines”, the EU writes in the letter according to NRK.

The protective duties apply in a first round for 200 days.

The announcement of the duties to Norway – which has also been sent to other EES countries – comes at the same time as the EU is in an intense negotiation with the USA about duties.
