The Actors: "Trump's Criticism Inspires Violence"

Donald Trump's rhetoric when he criticizes the film "The Apprentice" is dangerous. This is the opinion of actors Jeremy Strong and Sebastian Stan, who play the leading roles in the Swedish-Iranian director Ali Abbasi's film.

"The apprentice" depicts Donald Trump's early career, and in a sequence in the film, he rapes his first wife Ivana.

In a post on X earlier in the week, the presidential candidate raged against the film in general and screenwriter Gabriel Sherman in particular, calling him "a talentless deceitful writer" and "human scum".

Trump also writes that the film is a disgusting, politically motivated character assassination and that he hopes it flops. He has also made it clear that he intends to sue director Ali Abbasi for defamation.

In an interview with BBC's Radio 4, actors Jeremy Strong and Sebastian Stan say their fear is that Trump's comments may inspire violence.

It wasn't until recently that it started to feel a bit dangerous to be in the line of fire for this. Gabriel Sherman has been flooded with threats, death threats, and anti-Semitic hate, says Strong.

Sebastian Stan says in the interview that Trump's comments are "divisive".

They inspire violence and threats. Thanks to him, many people feel they have the right to behave like animals. All we've tried to do is inspire conversation about a person who calls himself the leader of the free world and who is running for president.

"The apprentice" premiered on Friday.
