A Bible-based curriculum will be allowed in elementary schools in Texas, since the American state's school board has voted for it, reports American media.
Elected Republicans control the school board, where the vote ended with the numbers 8–7. The curriculum is voluntary to use, but the schools that implement it will receive more money.
The curriculum can start being used as early as next year, and Texas Governor Greg Abbott has expressed support for it.
Staci Childs voted against the curriculum, and is a lawyer and Democrat. She believes that the decision will be challenged in court.
If a parent or a teacher who doesn't feel comfortable teaching this would take it up in court, I think they would succeed, she says according to NBC News.
Earlier, other states in the USA governed by Republicans have worked to give religion a greater presence in classrooms.
