A high school student in western France has been arrested on suspicion of having threatened to murder one of his teachers, according to several French media outlets citing sources within the police.
The 17-year-old boy is said to have made threatening gestures, pretending to fire a weapon, when he handed in a school assignment to the teacher in question. He later created a social media account where he hinted at a connection to the extremist movement IS and wrote messages about stabbing the teacher.
On Thursday morning, he was arrested by police at his home in the area around the city of Nantes, and two knives and a flag with an IS motif were seized. The case is being further investigated locally, but prosecutors working on terrorist cases at the national level say they are following the development.
