A Russian court sentenced a Swedish man in absentia to 23 years in prison for fighting alongside Ukraine, reports Kyiv Independent.
Besides the Swede, three men from the United Kingdom and one from Croatia were also sentenced.
More specific grounds for the verdict are lacking. The men deny any wrongdoing.
The trial against the five men began in the partially Russian-occupied Donetsk in August 2022. However, just a month later, they were released in a prisoner exchange. The Swedish man is then said to have returned to Sweden.
The court that sentenced the men is located in the Russian city of Rostov-na-Donu near the border with Ukraine.
TT has been in contact with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which declines to comment on Thursday.
