The right to consular assistance abroad for individuals with dual citizenship should be investigated. This is stated by Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (The Moderate Party) to Sveriges Radio Ekot.

The inquiry is to be appointed shortly and will also examine what rights should apply when a person travels to an area despite advice from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Malmer Stenergard refers to the fact that the questions have become topical recently, among other things in connection with the war between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Then such questions arise, should one have the same assistance from Sweden if one also has citizenship in Lebanon?

She emphasizes, however, that the inquiry should primarily focus on making the regulations in the area clear and predictable.
