Three people have been detained in Sweden for serious war crimes suspected to have been committed in Syria in 2012. The individuals are Swedish citizens, according to prosecutor and investigation leader Ulrika Bentelius Egelrud.

The operation is a collaboration between Swedish and German prosecutors and police with the support of Europol and Eurojust.

Several people have also been arrested in Germany and Ulrika Bentelius Egelrud states that it "partially" concerns the same incident, but does not want to go into details about the case.

The investigation is ongoing and will continue ahead, she says.
