The Government proposes that Nämdöskärgården shall become a new national park – the first marine national park in the Baltic Sea.
It is a unique area in Stockholm's archipelago with very high natural values that is easy to visit, motivates the Government its decision.
"Now we protect the unique landscape and contribute to the goal of protecting 30 percent of the Baltic Sea, which ensures a sustainable future for our marine ecosystems", says Climate and Environment Minister Romina Pourmokhtari (L) in a comment.
The Government's plan is that Nämdöskärgården's national park can be inaugurated in September this year. Kosterhavet's national park, which was inaugurated in 2009, is today Sweden's only pure marine national park.
