Sweden is sending family tents and blankets to the French island group Mayotte, which has been severely affected by Cyclone Chido, according to the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB), which is coordinating the support.

The first shipment, consisting of 128 family tents, began on Saturday. A total of 424 tents and 2,350 blankets will be sent to Mayotte. MSB has also sent personnel to assist with logistics on site.

"Right now, France needs extensive support from other countries, and it is obvious that we are making the resources we have available," says Susanna Trehörning, operational chief at MSB, in a press release.

The support follows an official request to Sweden through the EU's civil protection mechanism, according to MSB.
