The three were released after a decision by an Argentine appeals court, according to Rolling Stone. It concerns a close friend of Payne's, as well as two employees at the hotel where he died last year.
According to the court's decision, the three have no role in the artist's death and are therefore no longer suspected of manslaughter, which was the crime classification.
"I'm glad this is finally over. I can now travel to the UK and say goodbye to my friend," says the friend in a statement to the newspaper.
Two people suspected of having supplied Payne with drugs are still in custody awaiting trial.
Liam Payne fell to his death from the balcony of the Casa Sur hotel in Buenos Aires on October 16 last year. The police found drugs in his hotel room, and a forensic examination showed that he had traces of alcohol, cocaine, and prescription antidepressants in his body.
The prosecutor suspects that Liam Payne may have been so affected that he was not contactable or knew what he was doing at the time of his death.
Liam Payne was one of the members of One Direction, one of the biggest pop groups of the 2010s. The group split up in 2016.
