The national bomb squad has neutralized a suspected dangerous object in Gottsunda, Uppsala. The object turned out to be a live hand grenade.
A large police operation was underway in the district since the object was found outdoors near a multi-family house on Saturday.
Just before 18, we received a call from someone who believed they had seen a dangerous object. We sent a patrol for assessment, said police spokesperson Tobias Ahlén-Svalbro.
The police could not determine whether the object was dangerous or not, and the national bomb squad was called to the scene. The residents of the house were evacuated and the property was cordoned off.
At 22, the police confirmed that the national bomb squad had neutralized the object, which was a live hand grenade.
An investigation into general endangerment and violation of the law on explosive materials has been initiated. A technical investigation and door-to-door inquiry will be conducted on the scene, the police write on their website.
