The Swedish Film Institute is changing its criteria for film support, reports DN. To receive support, the film should be in Swedish. The context in which it takes place should also be Swedish.

The change is made according to the Swedish Film Institute's CEO Anna Croneman so that Swedish actors and film workers can be active in Sweden and so that the Swedish audience has access to films in Swedish in a Swedish context.

Even films in minority languages such as Finnish, Yiddish, Meänkieli, Romani Chib and Sami will be prioritized. What constitutes a Swedish context will be assessed on a case-by-case basis by the Film Institute's consultants.

In the future, the Swedish Film Institute will support at most two international films per year.
