It has been a positive first month of the year for the daily goods trade. In January, sales in the daily goods trade increased by 4.8 percent compared to the same month last year, according to the Swedish Daily Goods Trade's Daily Goods Index.
This despite a turbulent start to the year.
"The beginning of 2025 has been marked by continued inflation concerns and global uncertainty. Threats of tariffs and disruptions in the supply chain risk driving up costs further, which puts pressure on companies and already vulnerable households," says Karin Brynell, CEO of Swedish Daily Goods Trade in a press release.
This confirms the trend that households' purchasing power is slowly strengthening, according to Brynell.
The largest increase was in store sales, with an increase of 5.1 percent compared to 2024.
