The Upsala Nya Tidning revealed that an 84-year-old woman was assaulted and raped by a male employee from the municipal home care service in Uppsala Municipality. The municipality has apologized to the woman and since then begun to require extracts from the criminal records at employment. However, many municipalities are uncertain about what can actually be checked at employment, and now the government wants to tighten the requirements.

Following the assaults and rape in home care: the government wants to introduce requirements for extracts from the criminal records to obtain employment in elderly care, says Anna Tenje (The Moderate Party), Minister for the Elderly and Social Insurance, to TV4 News.

It will be similar to the school system. Those who have not shown their criminal records will not be able to get a job in elderly care.

The accused man has been dismissed by the municipality. He denies the crime and the investigation into the rape has been dropped due to lack of evidence.
