The American stock exchanges began the new trading week just like the previous one ended, with rising prices.
The broad S&P 500 index rose 1.0 percent, the Dow Jones industrial index increased 0.6 percent, while the technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index increased 1.4 percent.
Chip manufacturer AMD rose 4.5 percent after the company announced that it would acquire AI supplier ZT Systems. The deal is worth nearly five billion dollars.
Semiconductor giant Nvidia also performed strongly, up 4.4 percent.
Investors are now looking forward to Friday when Jerome Powell, the head of the US central bank Federal Reserve (Fed), will speak. Almost everyone expects the Fed to start cutting interest rates at its next meeting in September.
