Last year, Spotify paid out ten billion dollars – equivalent to around 110 billion kronor – to the music industry, the company states in a press release.
Since the music service was founded, Spotify has paid out almost 60 billion dollars.
Ten years ago, in 2014, the corresponding annual contribution was one billion dollars, according to Spotify.
In an estimate, the company further writes that 10,000 artists generated at least 10,000 dollars per year on Spotify in 2014, while over 10,000 artists today generate over 100,000 dollars per year on the music service.
