We have information that Russia has provided material and air defense missiles to strengthen Pyongyang's air defense system, which is a weak point for North Korea, says Shin Won-Sik, who is the South Korean president's highest advisor on national security issues, in a TV program according to the news agency Yonhap.
According to Shin, North Korea has also received help with its military satellite development and various forms of economic support.
North Korea has sent more than 10,000 soldiers to Russia, according to the US. The soldiers wear Russian uniforms and equipment, but are likely to fight in their own units.
On Thursday, American media reported that a North Korean general had been injured in combat in the Russian region of Kursk, where a border area is under Ukrainian occupation.
It has also been reported that North Korea has sent artillery and rockets to the Russian military, to replenish stocks that have been quickly depleted.
Russia has tied itself to North Korea during the course of the Ukraine war, and the leaders of the two countries signed a defense pact earlier this year, which stipulates that they will help each other in the event of military attacks.
