South Korea's military fired warning shots after North Korean soldiers briefly crossed the heavily guarded border between the countries last week, reports South Korea's news agency Yonhap.
A group of North Korean soldiers stepped across the so-called Military Demarcation Line, which lies in the middle of the demilitarised zone separating the two countries, according to South Korea's military.
The North Korean soldiers returned to their side of the border after the warning, says the South Korean military, adding that no suspicious activity was detected after the incident.
South Korea's military has assessed that the North Korean soldiers do not appear to have crossed the border intentionally. The location was a wooded area, according to a military spokesperson.
The so-called Military Demarcation Line, also known as the demarcation line, is a legacy of the 1950–1953 war. The two countries have never signed a peace treaty, and a state of armistice still prevails.
